Original French July Monarchy Era French Army Officer’s Sword With Fold Up Rain Guard and Correct Scabbard - Name Engraved

Regular price $695.00

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful example of an early 1840s era, July Monarchy era Officers Sword with scabbard. If this sword does look familiar, this is what the American Model 1840 Army NCO sword was modeled after. The ricasso is faintly engraved on each side with what appears to be a Paris based firm for manufacturer. The fold up rain guard has a name etched into it that appears to be H. Laplum, though with fading it has made it difficult to read, making this a wonderful research opportunity.

The hilt is constructed of a wood grip with lovely twisted brass wire resting in the grooves. The mounts are all brass from the ball pommel, the single knuckle bar to the shell guard one side of which folds against the scabbard to facilitate wearing on the left hip. The outer portion of the shell guard bears a large brass French Napoleonic French Eagle. There are some maker markings apparent on the under side of the brass shell guard. Standing approximately 37-inches in total length this sword dates from a time of true greatness for France.

A great example ready for further research and display.
