The Bofors 40 mm gun, often referred to simply as the Bofors gun, is an anti-aircraft autocannon designed in the 1930s by the Swedish arms manufacturer AB Bofors. It was one of the most popular medium-weight anti-aircraft systems during World War II, used by most of the western Allies as well some captured systems being used by the Axis powers. A small number of these weapons remain in service to this day, and saw action as late as the Persian Gulf War.

The round itself is a wonderful display and still retains much of the original paint and markings, including a 12/43 date. There is also a 1943 date stamped into the bottom of the shell casing. It measures approximately 17 3/4" long, and has a diameter of  2 3/8".

The overall condition is very good, showing only light wear to the projectile, and no major oxidation issues that we can see. We unfortunately were not able to figure out what type of projectile it is, as we were not able to locate a British color code chart.

A lovely example ready for further research and display.
