Original British WWII SFP Civil Defense Zuckerman Helmet - Dated February 1941

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The Zuckerman helmet, officially designated the Civilian Protective Helmet, was a British helmet designed for use by civil defense organizations and the general public during World War II. It was researched and designed by Solly Zuckerman, Derman Christopherson and Hugh Cairns.

This example is marked SFP, for Street Fire party, replaced later by the title 'Fire guard'. It also has been marked with a triangular logo with the letters PSC, for the Pressed Steel Company of Oxford on the inside rim.  The inner rim of the helmet is also stamped with a date code of 2 41 and a size of L.

It is in good condition with original paint and liner. The liner and attachment cord are in decent condition, though the chin strap is unfortunately absent. The Liner is marked C.C. & S. LTD / SIZE 7 1/4 / 1941, and has had some of the rubber pads degrade over time. Also the liner attachment string has mostly rotted out due to moisture or a reaction with the steel. A nice example of home front headgear from the blitz!
