Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The Junkers Ju 88 was a German World War II Luftwaffe twin-engined multirole combat aircraft. Junkers Aircraft and Motor Works (JFM) designed the plane in the mid-1930s as a so-called fast bomber that would be too fast for fighters of its era to intercept. It suffered from technical problems during its development and early operational periods but became one of the most versatile combat aircraft of the war. Like a number of other Luftwaffe bombers, it served as a bomber, dive bomber, night fighter, torpedo bomber, reconnaissance aircraft, heavy fighter and at the end of the war, as a flying bomb.

Despite a protracted development, it became one of the Luftwaffe's most important aircraft, especially as a night fighter, probably the best that German fielded during the war. The assembly line ran constantly from 1936 to 1945 and more than 15,000 Ju 88s were built in dozens of variants, more than any other twin-engine German aircraft of the period. Throughout production the basic structure of the aircraft remained unchanged.

This is a lovely Empfänger Zielflug 6 (Direction Finder Receiver 6 or EZ6), as used in the navigation suite on a Junkers Ju 88 aircraft. It was also utilized in other larger aircraft such as the Heinkel HE 111, and probably others. It would be used with other instruments such as the FuG 10 radio rack, with an EZ 6 and G 6 direction finding set taking the place of the usual E10L receiver. In this configuration it would be called the FuG 10P (Peil), and was vital to navigation, especially at night.

This example is in very good condition, and looks to be complete, though we have no way of testing it for functionality at all. All of the white painted labels are legible, and all of the knobs still turn. The various jacks and plugs all look to be present. It even has the original data tag, giving information about the model and maker, which reads:

EZ6
Gerät-Nr. 124-112'A-3
Anforderz.   Ln 26582
Werk.-Nr.   256435
Hersteller:       jcp

We unfortunately were not able to determine which maker the code "jcp" stands for. The unit weighs about 20lbs, an measures 8 ½"W x 7"H x 9 ½"D. It is offered in AS IS condition, we have no idea if it works or could be made to work. The interior appears to be full as it is full weight. It comes with some printed out reference materials that show it installed and give further information.

A great piece of German WWII Luftwaffe navigation equipment, ready to add to your collection!
