Original French Pattern 1854 Infantry Shako

Item Description

Original Item: Only One available. This shako, believed to be a model 1854, is very good condition. Black felt covered pasteboard body has no major issues or scuffing. Gold- trimmed crown braid retains some of its gilding, while the crown itself is made of leather that has no major issues with crazing. Plume or pomme is good with hardly any soiling, and the cockarde, while faded, is still quite prominent.

Brass eagle maintains most of its original shine to it, revealing only some slight patina, and in the lightning bolt/arrow motif. Matching brass-scaled chinstrap and grenadier connection points are in a similar state, but with more patina. Leather visor is also in good shape with very little crazing.

The inside sweatband is cracked and peeling in spots, but is complete. The pink, paper lining is also complete, yet this one bears no maker marks or dates to it due to age and fading, but likely dates during the Second Napoleonic Empire.
