Original Items: One Set of Two Available. Here we have a great set of left and right side pouches from the German WWII Pioniersturmgepäck Pioneer Combat Engineer Assault Pack Assembly adopted by the German Army on March 27th, 1941. These pack assemblies consisted of a backpack hooked onto the standard belt support straps (Y straps) with two side pouches; to be worn in place of, or in addition to, ammunition pouches. This set is the left and right side pouches only, and does not include the central pack.
The left pouch was intended for additional explosives and grenades in two compartments. Both pouches have a series of four vertical rifle ammunition pouches intended to carry ammunition in stripper clips. The right side pouch, with only one larger compartment, was intended for the Gas Mask. Each side pouch has belt loops to secure the set at the waist, and strangely enough there are no D-rings attached to the pouches to secure them to the Y-straps. Why this was done is unknown.
According to the HM (Heeres Mitteilung - Army Message) 41 No, 329 the pouches were for egg grenades etc. On pictures stick grenades can often be seen sticking out of the side pouches. It just happens to be a fact that the side pouch can easily contain a 3Kg explosive (Geballte Ladung) and the left pouch can contain two 1Kg explosives (Sprengbüchse 24)
The pouches are in very good condition, showing light wear from age, and look to both be complete, with all snaps still functional Both packs still have maker markings stamped on the underside of the top flaps. As one might expect, there is some oxidation on the snaps and other fittings due to long age.
A very scarce set used by Special Forces of the German Army during WWII, ready to display, or match up with your central pack!
