Original U.S. Vietnam War Era BLU-3 “Pineapple” Cluster Bomblet Training Cutaway - Inert

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful example of a “classroom” training aid cutaway of a BLU-3 cluster bomb. These training aids were and still are a crucial part of training new generations of service men and women to better allow them to understand just how the equipment they’re using work. The bomblet is totally inert and is unable to be used as an explosive device. This example is in complete compliance with the current BATF standards governing inert ordnance and is not available for export.

BLU-3 Pineapple was a cluster bomblet, 360 were deployed from the CBU-2A cluster bomb. It was used extensively in the Vietnam War by American forces. It was named "Pineapple" because of its appearance. On some Arc Light missions, the B-52Ds carried two SUU-24 dispensers in the bomb bay, containing a total of 10,656 bomblets.

The BLU-3/B 'Pineapple' was a fragmentation bomblet for use against personnel and unarmored targets. After release from the aerial dispenser, the bomblet was stabilized by six pop-out drag vanes. It detonated on impact, and dispersed 250 high-velocity steel pellets.

This example is in wonderful condition and does appear to have been repainted after the cutaway was done. We have compared this one with other known examples and they are all yellow in appearance while this one is an OD green. There is no significant damage present and all the components that are supposed to be present are still present. Most of the wings are present as the ones that are missing were disposed of when the cutaway was made.

A great example of a hard to find bomblet from the Vietnam War. Comes more than ready for display.
