YOU WILL ONLY RECEIVE THE WOODEN MODEL.

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is an outstanding display piece with some interesting provenance. This is an enormous oversized wooden model of a Colt Model 1860 Army Percussion Revolver, measuring roughly 28 x 11 x 3¼”. The model is signed on the underside of the butt by Harry A. Kenton of Tucson, Arizona. Kenton built several such models, and we were able to find a photo of one very similar to this in a 1964 newspaper article, stating that the wooden gun is used as a demonstration piece by Trader Chappelle of Concord, California, an antique shop.

The model does not function, and none of the parts move, despite how well-designed everything is. This would have taken a ridiculous amount of time to carved, with some great small details including the channels built for the ramrod and the holes bored out for the cylinder. The model is signed on the bottom of the butt:

HARRY A. KENTON
His Work

As shown, a wooden model very similar to this was pictured at the Kiwanis Gun Show at the Yuma County Fairgrounds on March 1st, 1964. This looks to be one of several wooden guns built by Kenton for use as demonstration pieces, and he likely sold them at gun shows like this one.

There is a single steel loop behind the hammer, likely for attachment of a hanging string. There is some minor damage including chipping to the wood on the hammer, but nothing that detracts from its beauty. This is an outstanding display piece.

The combination of the massive 28-inch scale, detailed Colt Model 1860 form, Harry A. Kenton signature, mid-century Arizona maker attribution, and documented connection to similar gun-show demonstration models makes this a particularly unusual display piece. Its purpose-built, non-functioning construction and surviving maker signature give it strong provenance as a handcrafted educational or promotional model rather than a novelty reproduction.

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/u-s-civil-war-oversized-wooden-colt-model-1860-army-percussion-revolver-model-by-harry-a-kenton-used-as-demonstration-piece-28-long
