These are most uncommon today but were essential equipment for the hardhat divers of the WWII era. Just what Bob Hope needed in the film "The Road to Bali" when fighting a giant squid!

Offered in excellent condition, this rare WWII example has the standard 6 3/4" blade with saw teeth on one edge. The grip is turned hardwood and the hilt has a brass pommel, and the knife screws into a heavy brass cylindrical scabbard. There were five or so manufacturers of this type of knife in WW2: DESCO, VINCE FORGE, MORRIS, BATTERYLESS TELEPHONE, BOMAR and SCHRADER. Usually the makers marked the scabbard, but DESCO often did not, so this may have been made by them. It has a very nice leather strap attached to the scabbard, something we have not had before!

Condition is very good, with an excellent blade showing little to no use, and all of the brass components have a lovely aged patina. It does look like the end of the handle near the blade split at one point, and was then turned down to remove the damage. It still however has small splits on that end to either side.

Specifications:
Blade Length: 6 3/4"
Blade Style: Double Edged with Saw Back
Overall length: 12 7/8“
Scabbard Length: 8 1/2"

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-wwii-u-s-navy-mk-5-deep-sea-dive-knife-with-brass-scabbard-securing-strap
