This is an excellent example of the Swiss Model 1943 Officer's Dagger, complete with the original scabbard and red / white portepee. As with other examples we have seen, it is marked on the blade ricasso with serial number 35125, with maker ELSENER / SCHWYZ marked on the other side. This company, headquartered in Ibach in the Swiss canton of Schwyz, still exists today as the famous maker of pocket knives and watches VICTORINOX. This dagger is fully described on pages 201 – 213 of Kurt Glemser’s fine work, A Guide to Military Dress Daggers, Volume III.

The dagger features a spear point double edged blade, with a "stiletto" dagger type profile showing a center ridge. This is attached to a nickel plated alloy handle with a wide crossguard, fitted with fruit wood grips secured by three bolts with split nuts. The pommel is secured by a keyed nut. The dagger is in excellent condition, showing only light wear from storage, and the blade still shows virtually all of the original factory final grind cross grain, very similar to those on German WWII daggers. The original edge is still present and sharp. With the total absence of rust, we believe the blade is most likely Stainless Steel, the material the company is well known for using. The name it currently uses is in fact a portmanteau of Elsener's mother's name, Victoria, and the French word for stainless steel, acier inoxydable.

The steel scabbard is also in great shape, showing almost no wear with the black enamel finish retained at nearly 100%, with just a bit of chipping around the square bottom knob. The rear of the scabbard is stamped with “S” under the throat screw, which denotes the city of Sissach where the company that produced the scabbards, Basler Eisnmobelfabrick A.G., is located. Above this is the leather hanger strap with a nickel silver buckle, which shows a bit of verdigris from age and contact with the leather.

A fantastic example of a hard to find Swiss Officer's Dagger, complete with the original scabbard and ready to display!

Specifications:

Blade Length: 8 1/4"
Blade Style: Spear Point Double Edged Dagger
Overall length: 13 3/8“
Crossguard: 4”
Scabbard Length: 9 1/4" + belt clip

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-wwii-swiss-model-1943-officers-dagger-by-elsener-schwyz-with-scabbard-portepee
