This is a great example of a mid-war production 2nd Model Luftwaffe dagger, complete with its original scabbard and portepee. It is a fine Solingen-Produced example made by the well known firm of \u003cem\u003ePaul Weyersberg\u003c\/em\u003e, one of the many different firms run by members of this family. The celluloid grip of this dagger is a nice light caramel color, having faded from the original ivory white. It has a nice slightly tapered shape, and is tightly wrapped with twisted wire, which has a lovely oxidized patina.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe hilt mounts are similarly great on this dagger. The pommel is crisp and excellent, with a lovely dark \"antiqued\" tarnish look to the plating. The \"mobile\" swass on both sides are clear, and the oak leaves around them are raised out and heavily hand enhanced. The pommel appears to be solid aluminum, with silver plating, showing only light wear on the contact points, which has worn through the plating in places.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe crossguard is also made of plated Aluminum, which was an \"Air Age\" material, which was used to make most airplanes. It was considered fitting and desirable for the eagle-shaped guard to be made of this material. The front side is an eagle with a breast and talon area that is vaulted out much more so than the crossguards seen on other types of daggers. This guard shows little wear and has great feathering on the eagle. The bird, of course, flies to the left and grasps a mobile swas in his talons. The reverse panel is decorated with small pebbling, which is still clear. The plated antiqued backgrounds give it a lovely look.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe ferrule looks to be plated steel, and has a lovely oxidized patina. Tied around this is an original portepee, which is in good condition, and tied in the Luftwaffe style. There is definitely some light fraying and loss of bullion in areas, but it still presents very well.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe blade on this dagger is polished bright steel, something we usually do not see, as it does not have the usual crossgrain on it. However it has an etched marking, which is still crisp, so it was not polished smooth post war, it was made that way originally, which seems to be something Paul Weyersberg did. It also has a factory edge with 45 degree facets. The tip is intact and unbent, and there is just a bit of light oxidation in places on the surface. Really a great blade! The original leather blade buffer is still present inside the recesses of the guard.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis great example was made by\u003cstrong\u003e Paul Weyersberg of Solingen\u003c\/strong\u003e, the legendary \"City of Blades\" in western Germany. The reverse ricasso is etched with \u003cstrong\u003ePAUL WEYERSBERG \u0026amp; Co. \/ SOLINGEN\u003c\/strong\u003e in double ovals around the firms trademark \"Sword-and-Wreath\" logo, which was the only marking they used during the Third Reich era. This company was one of many in Solingen owned by members of the Weyersberg family. The company survived the war, but ceased production in 1955. It has a lovely tarnished patina in many places, with other areas worn bright. The scabbard is completely non-magnetic, except for the throat springs. It is most likely made from aluminum or zinc alloy, which was then plated. The bands are aluminum alloy, and are well defined and have outstanding hand enhanced oak leaves tipped at a 45 degree angle, with some wear. The throat is retained by two two flush-headed screws, one in each side, and is the narrower version seen.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis really is an excellent 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger with scabbard and portepee, made by a well-known maker and offered in great condition.
