Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice condition U.S. Marine Corps tan color "Bell Crown" visor cap, intended to be worn by Enlisted Men for winter dress. The name comes from the pronounced flare out towards the top of the cap. This cap is heavier than the summer khaki, and is constructed of heavy wool fabric stretched over a wicker inner frame. It is a great WWI khaki color, which has more tan than later variants used in WWII.
The cap features a lacquered fabric brim, probably supported by pressed paper or fabric. The brown faux leather sweatband is stitched to the body of the hat, though the stitching has deteriorated in places, and the sweatband has become somewhat brittle.
The front of the cap bears the correct era darkened bronze P16 EGA, with remnants of the brown leather adjustable chinstrap with two USMC side buttons. The piece of chinstrap that is left is no longer attached nor is it possible to attach. Minor moth issues to report, the hat is sound, not crushed or broken. There is no lining left or sweatband present. The lack of lining has made the factory label visible, stating the cap a size 6 ¾ and patent dated 1913.
A great example to pick up a rare cap from the WWI Era!
