In lovely condition, this rare type of bayonet for the Swiss Vetterli rifle is featured in THE BAYONET BOOK by Watts \u0026amp; White on page Page 269, item 600, in the SWISS SECTION. Pictured is the 3 Rivet Grip M1881 version, but the text mentions this, the early 4 rivet M1878 version. The bayonet features a straight spearpoint sawback blade of 19\", with a steel cross guard marked with serial number \u003cstrong\u003e192496\u003c\/strong\u003e. Overall length is 23 3\/4 inches, and the blade has an interesting main edge that is only ground from one side of the blade, leaving the other side flat, except on the false edge. The blade is maker marked \u003cstrong\u003eS.J.G. NEUHAUSEN\u003c\/strong\u003e on the ricasso and is in very good condition, with just a bit of staining. It shows very little sign of ever having been used.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe grip has lovely dark brown gutta percha checkered composite grips retained by 4 rivets, with an old style long leaf spring bayonet catch. There is a bit of wear and oxidation on the metal parts of the hilt, but nothing major.
