This example is particularly well made, with the New York officer's front insignia \u003ci\u003eFULLY HAND EMBROIDERED\u003c\/i\u003e in gold and silver bullion. The hat band is red, denoting field artillery, and the gold tape chinstrap is held in by two gilt New York buttons.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe cap features a patent leather covered visor, probably supported by pressed paper or fabric. The brown leather sweatband is stitched to the body of the hat, with much of the stitching now gone. The shape of the cap has deformed a bit, but some time on a mannequin head should fix that.
