This is a very good condition Genuine WWI Austro-Hungarian Model 1917 helmet with an original standard Olive Green \/ Brown \"Isonzo braun\" paint. The paint is well retained, something we do not often see, as many of these helmets were repainted during the war or after. It has some wear to the paint, giving it a great \"battle worn\" look that is impossible to duplicate.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe helmet does have an original liner, but the leather is in \"relic\" condition, now quite delicate and discolored. The three panels have shrunk a bit, so they now stick out, and only two of three still have the padding in the pockets behind them. The original top tie is missing, as are most of the grommets on the fingers at the end of the panels. It also has a complete canvas chin strap, which has slightly deteriorated. All three liner split pins are intact, with the correct thicker pin in the rear.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAbove the left ear interior of the apron of the shell has a stamped manufacturer's code and size \u003cstrong\u003eAW 64\u003c\/strong\u003e, which indicates manufacture by \u003cem\u003eA. Westen Cilli\u003c\/em\u003e, located in Celie, Slovenia. This company produced shells in size 64 only during WWI. Size 64 is a medium size shell, which can accommodate size 56-58 liners. This size is somewhat harder to find, and more desirable to collectors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe shell also retains both of the extended ventilation side lugs, which are the correct long version with a step for the smaller size 64 shell. This would ensure proper installation of a \"Stirnpanzer\" brow plate regardless of shell size. We checked the top of the helmet for a rolling mill mark, and due to wear and paint we were not able to see anything.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a great chance to pick up a very nice Austro-Hungarian \"Great War\" helmet, still in the original issued configuration. The Austrian M1917 helmet was similar to the German M1916, but had a few variations including the chinstrap,, chinstrap rivets located higher up on the steel shell and variations in locations of markings among others.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEarly Austrian helmets were supplied by Germany, the first shells supplied as the chinstrap rivets were mounted in a lower position. The Austrians fitted their own chinstrap bales, chinstraps and liner and painted them in Austrian Isonzo braun. Unlike the Germans the Austrian pattern helmet are often found without factory stamps and heating lot codes. When the heating lot codes are present it is often on the outer top dome of the helmet instead of the inside. The following is a table of Manufactures codes of helmets produced by the Austrians. Several of these makers did not stamp the code into the shell of the helmet but rather marked them with an ink stamp.
