Original U.S. WWII USAAF Imperial Folding Survival Machete Type A-1

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a great example of a World War II U.S. Army Air Force Type A-1 folding machete survival knife. These were manufactured by Imperial Knife Co. Providence RI. as stamped on left ricasso: IMPERIAL / PROV. R.I.. Adopted by the US Military in 1942 for the B-4 emergency bail out kit usually attached to the parachute harness. The machete has checkered black plastic grip panels and a blued steel blade. There is a guard system built into machete that when closed, the metal guard protects the blade. When open, the guard flips closed to lock the blade in place. There is a release button for the guard that must be pushed to the release the guard and close the blade.

The blade on this example is in very nice condition, with around 80% of the original bluing intact. There is some edge wear and a chip on the edge, but otherwise the machete is quite solid. The blade guard has a bit of pitting near the end, from contact with the leather holster. The grips just have some light scratches from use and handling.

The Folding Machete comes with an original sharpening stone and tan colored leather sheath with flap and belt loop. It is marked MACHETE WITH SHEATH / TYPE A-1 / NO. 48C3639. The sheath and sharpening stone are in used but very good condition.

A great chance to add a hard to find survival tool to your collection!

MEASUREMENTS: Blade length is 9-5/8". Overall length when open is 17". Overall length when closed is 11-5/8".
CONDITION: Very good
