This is a genuine military issue U.S. WWII pattern M2 tripod mount of the type used with the Browning M1919A4 .30 caliber machine gun. It remains complete and functional, showing evidence of lengthy service followed by a postwar refurbishment that included refinishing and the installation of an Israeli marked replacement data plate.

The Browning M1919A4 was one of the principal American medium machine guns of World War II. Its low profile M2 tripod provided a stable firing platform while remaining light enough to be transported by the gun crew. The M1919A4 and M2 tripod combination continued in American service after WWII and was supplied extensively to allied nations, including Israel.

This tripod appears to have had its original finish removed during a postwar reconditioning. It was subsequently repainted in a dark olive drab green. The replacement brass data plate bears two Israeli acceptance markings around the serial number and reads:

NO. 0234 AF
MOUNT TRIPOD
CAL 30 M2

We carefully inspected the central hub but were unable to locate any remaining manufacturer or date markings on its upper surface, most likely due to the cleaning and refinishing process. The underside is marked with part number:

C 59331

Additional small manufacturer or inspection markings are visible on several individual components.

The tripod retains its brass pintle socket, three folding legs, traversing bar, and welded feet. The legs and other moving components operate correctly. As is common with service used M2 tripods, the traversing bar is somewhat stiff and requires firm pressure to lock into position.

Overall condition is very good and service used.
