The phone retains its handset although the wire is in rough condition.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDuring WWII the U.S. navy fielded various parts of dial telephones kept onboard the ship, and this is the Type F bulkhead telephone, which could be installed in any station except those on weather decks. The type F telephone is a non-watertight unit designed for mounting on a bulkhead or on the side of a desk. It consists essentially of a metal housing on which are mounted the handset, dial, and ringer.
