Original U.S. WWII Navy Beach Battalion Paint N-2 Rain Uniform with M-7 Rubberized Boots - As Seen In Book

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Set Available. This very USN WWII uniform set is featured on pages 67 in the book U.S. Navy Uniforms in World War II Series: U. S. Naval Amphibious Forces, Volume 3 by Jeff Warner. In fact this set was purchased by IMA from the estate of Mr. Warner along with much of his personal collection.

In the days following the June 6th landings, many beach battalion men obtained wet weather parks and rain gear. The 7th NBB radioman seen here has taken up residence in a liberated German bunker. He is seen here wearing the N-2 rain outfit with an Army M-7 rubberized gas mask bag. Initially, the general order to paint the letters -USN- in white on the front and back of all outer wear specified that the letters were to be 3" high and placed on the upper left front of jackets and coats and centered on the backs of the same garments. Original photographs indicate that individuals applied the "USN" letters in a wide range of sizes and locations while others did not apply them at all. The intent was to clearly identify Navy personnel so they would not be mistaken for Army infantry and ordered inland. (J. Warner)
