On the outside of the leather liner band is \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eS Michel\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e in black ink or paint which stained the leather. Overall this is a great condition helmet. The leather is still supple, and the chin strap is complete and locks. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe M1917A1 helmet was a transitional helmet used during the early years of WWII prior to the introduction of the more common M1 Helmet. It was basically a M1917 helmet shell, as used during WWI, with and improved liner and chin strap assembly. These helmets were widely used by the US Army Troops that occupied the Pacific Islands before and the Pearl Harbor Attack.
