The M16 was one of several versions of large 7x50 binoculars used by the U.S. Military during WWII. They were named sequentially, and others included the M15, M15A1, M17, and M17A1 types. They were known for their nice wide field, and were used by all branches. This example is marked clearly on the bottom of the left barrel plate with 7 X 50 , and above this it is marked with the model designation and stock number:

BINOCULAR
M 16
STOCK NO. 7578343

On the end of the hinge they are marked with serial number NO. 1684. The binoculars definitely have coated optics that we can see, however the decal that usually states this is missing from the back of the right barrel, though we can see where it was.

This example is offered in very good condition with clear optics and an original leather CASE, CARRYING, M24, with the hard to find shoulder strap. It is marked with stock number D45874 on the front of the body, under the lid. These are often found without a case making this pair a hard to find set. The only real issue is that the carry handle on the top of the lid is missing.

The focus diopters both function and turn easily, and the left side has a nice ranging reticle. The textured covering on the set is in very good condition, with no cracks or chips. They still have a sturdy black leather neck strap attached, which looks to have been repurposed from another strap during the war.

A great chance to own a bit of optical history.

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-u-s-wwii-m16-7x50-binoculars-with-coated-optics-in-m24-leather-case-with-shoulder-strap
