These are quite rare! This is an very good condition unissued example of the extremely rare experimental U.S. WWII M1 Carbine short hip holster. The short holster was specifically designed for troops that could not be encumbered by carrying a rifle over the shoulder with a sling or in their hands. The ingenious short holster allowed the user to have both hands free by allowing the M1936 pistol belt to slide between the scabbard and the canvas heavy hip pad so the soldier could wear his carbine on his hip (cross draw).\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese holsters were designed for the full-length M1 carbine, not the folding stock M1A1 that fits in the paratrooper or parachutist's canvas holster.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis example is unissued, made of OD Green #3 canvas, with OD #7 trim. It is faintly maker marked and dated \u003cstrong\u003eUS. JEFF. QMC. \/ 1943\u003c\/strong\u003e, which is the same marking found on most original examples. This is definitely an ORIGINAL, not a reproduction, most of which bear the same marking. The snaps and rivets are all the correct blacked brass, with some oxidation on the hardware, typical of long storage, and there are some light stains as well.
