This is a very nice example of a Korean War Era U.S. Marine Corps Issue M1 Helmet as used during the Korean War Era and into the early Vietnam Conflict. The shell is an early-WWII Produced M1 Helmet, with fixed bales by Schlueter. The heat lot stamp is 70L / S. The leather liner chinstrap is gone. Both the shell and liner have a heavy trauma crack at the front, with the shell’s crack going right through the seam. The Helmet comes with an excellent condition U.S. Marine Corps Reversible Camouflage Cover. The helmet is complete with a late issue, WWII / Korean War Era, "High Pressure" Westinghouse liner. The complete set is in lovely, service used condition, it does show signs of honest wear, storage age, and handling over the decades.

This helmet is a fine example and still retains all of its original WWII parts and the shell has all original "corked" grain paint with front seam and fixed bails. The chin strap is the correct early war khaki with brass hardware. The shell and chinstrap are in service-worn condition with the large crack in the shell being the biggest flaw.

The liner is correct high pressure WWII issue and stamped with a W for the Westinghouse Electric Co Manufactured in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this "high pressure" manufactured M-1 helmet liner is identified by an embossed "W" in the crown (which is still Westinghouse's logo to this day). Westinghouse was the largest M-1 helmet liner producer and had two production divisions; Micarta and Bryant Electric. The Micarta Division produced about 13,000,000 M-1 helmet liners and the Bryant Electric Division about 10,000,000. Westinghouse Electric Company started M-1 helmet liner delivery in May 1942.

The liner exhibits almost no original paint except for yellow paint around the rim, with worn OD7 Olive Drab Webbing secured by “A”-Washers. The nape strap is gone. The leather sweatband is entirely absent, as is the chinstrap. There is a heavy crack at the front at the same spot as is on the shell.

The USMC cover is not marked or dated anywhere. The cover has a non-factory applied USMC Eagle, Globe, Anchor Insignia stencil painted on the front. The practice of which is debated if it was done during WWII or not. Some believe it was done on an individual basis, or at unit level. We do know that USMC camo covers were not made with the EGA markings until after WWII, but we believe this one to be post-war applied.

A very worn example of a Korean War issue helmet USMC helmet, perfect for any collection!
