Flare Pistol. Some collectors refer to this as the \"Model 52\" not because it was designed in 1952 but that at one time this gun was part of the International No. 52 marine distress signal kit.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBreak open operation, featuring steel, brass, and nickel construction. The pistol is embossed on both side of the crosshatch grip in raised letters: \u003cstrong\u003eINTERNATIONAL FLARE SIGNAL CO.\u003c\/strong\u003e, however the second line that normally reads \"TIPPECANCE CITY OHIO\" has  been machined off on both sides, possibly when sold into the private market. It has a 10 3\/4 inch overall length with an 8 3\/8 inch barrel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis example looks to have seen long maritime service, which led to oxidation on the brass frame and steel barrel. Repeated cleaning has removed the markings on the sides of the frame. It still does function correctly, though the mainspring is a bit weak. The ejector is still present and functional, though the bore definitely has rust.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese flare guns were made for commercial and military wartime use. Imagine being stranded in a life raft, after the sinking of your ship by a U-Boat, the most valuable item in your survival kit may have been this flare gun.
