Original U.S. WWII Class A Tunic of Edward R. Murrow CBS War Correspondent with Historical Property Catalog Certificate

Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This class A uniform jacket belonged to Edward R. Murrow (born Egbert Roscoe Murrow; April 25, 1908 – April 27, 1965) was an American broadcast journalist. He first came to prominence with a series of radio broadcasts for the news division of The Columbia Broadcasting System during World War II, which were followed by millions of listeners in the United States. During the war he assembled a team of foreign correspondents who came to be known as the Murrow Boys.

This tunic was a private purchase with the following details:

• Yellow embroidered E.R. MURROW at neck
• Maker’s label: THOMAS MCBRIDE TROY, NY
• Horn buttons
• Correct wartime WAR CORRESPONDENT patches to left breast and left shoulder (shoulder patch may be a late ware replacement patch as it is white, not dark green as seen in photos).

The most compelling part of this is the HISTORICAL PROPERTY CATALOG receipt from POST 215 of the American Legion Hasler-Kamp Post #215 in Pawling NY. It is dated March 5th 1968. The source of acquisition" is listed as Mrs. E. Murrow and donated by his wife Janet H. Brewster. On the back of the form it is listed as DEACCESSIONED September 3, 1979.
