Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is a tremendous set of items off of a B-17 / B-24 / B-29 Aircraft including a Norden Type B-2A Control Bomb Release, Bomb Shackle, Type D-12 Compass, & Pilot Deviation Indicator Gauge, along with a great photo of a bomb crew in front of their “Paper Doll” painted aircraft.
The items include:
- Norden Type B-2A Control Bomb Release: Manufactured by J.P. Seeburh Corp of Chicago, IL this what appears to be an unissued Control, Bomb Release, Type B2A. These devices were used during World War Two on American bombers planes such as the B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator and, Boeing B-29 Superfortress.
Also known as a "Intervalometer", the B-2A Control features dials which allow the bombardier to set the number of bombs released (between zero and fifty), and the interval between each bomb (seven to 750 feet). It is fitted it with a toggle switch with two settings: “Sel.”, which allows the settings to be adjusted, and “Train” which allows the bombs to be dropped at the selected intervals based on input from the bomb sight. Located in the bombardier's compartment of the Flying Fortress. Great shape overall, retains its data plate.
- Pilot Deviation Indicator Gauge: Made by Roller-Smith Co. of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Great shape and dial still moves.
- A.C. U.S. Army Type D-12 Compass by Bendix Aviation Corporation, Pioneer Instrument Division, Bendix NJ. Still filled with liquid and some debris! Nice large example, measures 5” tall and roughly 7” in diameter.
- Bomb Shackle Type AN-B-10 100-1600 Lbs. Dated 1943 and measures 16¼ x 4”. Very interesting piece.
- 4 x 5” image of a Bomber crew in front of their aircraft with “Paper Doll” artwork painted on the side. Great shot. Not named.
