Original Items: Only One Set Available. Purchased recently from a walk in customer, this is a great WWII U.S. Army Air Forces Aviator set, comprised of items that are in excellent condition, with most of the set being completely unissued. Some pieces even have their original packaging!
This wonderful set consists of:
- WWII Pilot Goggles, model AN6530 offered in fair condition with clear tint lenses by the CHAS. FISCHER SPRING CO. BROOKLYN, N.Y.. The rubber surround padding is still soft and attached to the lens housings, and the chamois lining shows only light wear. The elastic band, as with most, has lost most of the stretchiness. It looks like these goggles originally had tinted lenses, but an NOS pair of BAUSCH & LOMB lenses were installed, and the original tinted lenses are now in the packaging for the clear lenses. All of the lenses are in excellent condition.
- USAAF flying helmet, type A-9, summer, size LARGE in UNISSUED condition, still in the original box with the stock label. The helmet was made by the BATES SHOE COMPANY. The A-9 is a simple unlined summer flying helmet constructed from four segments of heavy cotton. It features hooks to fit the harness of either the type A-9 or type A-10 Standard oxygen masks, tie strings (forehead and neck) for adjustment and a fleece-covered leather chin strap. Nice QM tag sewn on the inside. Early WWII era cloth helmet with 1942 contract date.
- WWII USAAF Oxygen Mask Type A-14 manufactured by the Ohio Chemical Mfg. Co. offered in unissued condition. It is still contained in the original JAN 1945 dated box, and includes the packet containing the attachment hardware that could be used to mount it to just about any U.S. flight helmet. By modifying the helmet, or by getting the proper adapter, these should be able to mount to the A-9 helmet.
