The ability of servicemen to identify \"friend or foe\" in an instant was crucial to combat survival and the subject of recognition was taught in just about every World War II service school. Trained spotters were important to the war effort and to aid them 1:72 scale plastic models were made. The manufacturers Cruver and Design Center for airplane models are well known as being the primary providers of almost all production models in plastic.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese are heavily worn and damaged original (cellulose acetate) Cruver models with the C-46 being in the worst condition, with pieces falling off when it is handled. They are all marked with the Cruver Ⓒ marking. Underbody designations include the American C-46, P-61, and P-63, and the British Spitfire and Hotspur.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe C-46 is in rough shape measuring 16 ¾ x 13”. Dated March 1943. The Spitfire is in okay shape measuring 5 x 6” but there is chipping. Dated August 1942. The P-61 is heavily warped and damaged, measuring 7 ½ x 10 ¼”. Dated February 1944. The P-63 measures 5 ½ x 6 ⅜”. Dated May 1944. The Hotspur is in the best shape of the group and measures 7 ⅝ x 6 ¼”.
