Original U.S. WWII 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division Ike Jacket With Dog Tag Bead Personalized Bordered Insignia

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The 501st Infantry Regiment, previously the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment and 501st Airborne Infantry Regiment, is an airborne forces regiment of the United States Army with a long history, having served in World War II and the Vietnam War, both as part of the 101st Airborne Division, as well as the War in Afghanistan. It is the first airborne unit by designation in the United States Armed Forces. Its 1st Battalion is assigned to the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 11th Airborne Division, located at Fort Richardson, Alaska. Its 2nd Battalion is assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, located at Fort Liberty, North Carolina.

The Ike jacket is in near pristine, well cared for condition. The size is a 36 Small and features a lovely “Screaming Eagle” Old Abe patch with Airborne rocker on the left sleeve. There is a beautiful addition to the patch as it was bordered with section of a beaded chain, most likely taken from a set of dog tags. Old Abe, a bald eagle, was the mascot of the 8th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment in the American Civil War. Later, his image was adopted as the eagle appearing on a globe in Case Corporation's logo and as the screaming eagle on the insignia of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division.

Other features on the uniform include 4 overseas bars and single service stripe on the lower left sleeve. The collars have the standard “US” and Crossed Rifles discs. Above the left breast pocket are the ribbons for the following medals; Bronze Star, Good Conduct, American Campaign and European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign with 3 stars and 1 arrowhead. Above the ribbon bar is a lovely red with blue trim oval for the 501st PIR and a set of beautiful jump wings. The oval was also personalized with the addition of the beaded chain as a border. The right breast pocket has a Ruptured Duck patch.

The included trousers are in similar condition and shows signs of little wear. There is a laundry number present (D-0682) on the waistband. We did a search for the laundry number on wwiienlistment.com and came up with less than 50 results, making this a great research opportunity.

Comes more than ready for further research and display.
