Grisham

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a very nice original U.S. WWII Women’s Army Corps uniform grouping attributed through accompanying research to Private Mamie D. Grisham, who served with the 4th Army Service Command during the war. The group includes her service jacket, matching skirt, and overseas cap.

Grisham’s jacket is green with gilt Federal Eagle buttons and US & WAC Collar discs. There is a printed page of research which is what identifies the set to Grisham.

The jacket is in great shape without any serious wear. The included skirt is in similar condition. None of the items are physically named to Grisham. The jacket has a contract tag showing the size as 42R and the contract date as March 22nd, 1943.

The overseas cap has yellow and green piping, correct for the WAC / WAAC. The interior shows that it was tailored by Knox of New York, rare to see. It is marked with size 22 ½.

Mamie Dymple Grisham was born on March 13th, 1907 in Tennessee. She would marry Wiley Wilson Mullinax in 1948, changing her name to Mamie Dymple Mullinax. She enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps on May 12th, 1944. She was stationed in the United States, and was present in Florida at one point as we found her as a helper in a Christmas Party at the Welch Convalescent Hospital. She likely was discharged at the end of the war, and would eventually settle in Columbia, Tennessee, where she would pass away on February 6th, 2001 at the age of 93.

The combination of the WAC service jacket, matching skirt, Knox of New York overseas cap, correct yellow-and-green piping, and accompanying research identifying Private Mamie D. Grisham makes this a strong representative WWII women’s service grouping. While the uniform itself is not physically named, the surviving research provides an important personal connection to a woman who served with the Army Service Forces during the war.

Approximate Measurements:
Collar to shoulder: 8.5"
Shoulder to sleeve: 23"
Shoulder to shoulder: 17"
Chest width: 20"
Waist: 19"
Hip: 20"
Front length: 30"

Waist: 17"
Length: 27"

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-u-s-wwii-4th-army-service-command-named-women-s-army-corps-uniform-with-skirt-overseas-cap-mamie-d-grisham
