Founded in 1900, the Coleman company has been producing Camping equipment such as stoves, lanterns, and other items for over a century. When WWII Broke out, they were a clear option to provide small camp stoves and lanterns for use in the field.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis 252 Milspec lantern has a single mantle currently installed, though it is deteriorating. The bottom of the lantern has the correct military issue production markings:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: center;\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eU.S.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eLANTERN, GASOLINE LEADED FUEL\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eCOLEMAN\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e1945\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAdditionally, the fitting around the mantel supply is marked \u003cstrong\u003eSERVEL, INC.\u003c\/strong\u003e, and \u003cstrong\u003eALADDIN CONVERSION 1944\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\"White gasoline\" use was recommended, but this lantern was special as it was the first that could burn anything that counted as gas. Designed by Coleman in conjunction with Aladdin and the American Gas Machine Company under instruction from the Department of War, these lanterns were built exclusively for military use from 1943 until World War II ended in 1945. This demand brought several unique features to the 252, such as a built-in compartment for spare parts, a chained-on funnel and filler cap, and twin curved air tubes. Unfortunately the funnel is missing, however there are modern production mantles and tools in the spare parts compartment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe condition is very good, showing the expected chipping and wear to the green enamel finish.
