Only One Available. This is a very nice U.S. WWII M1905 bayonet that was manufactured by Utica Cutlery in 1942 and subsequently shortened during the wartime conversion program to the 10-inch M1 bayonet configuration. Most importantly, the reverse ricasso is clearly stamped PAL-MOD, identifying Pal Blade & Tool Company of Plattsburgh, New York as the firm that performed the wartime modification.

The original ricasso markings are partially obscured, but the surviving layout is consistent with the Utica Cutlery marking:

U. When the U.S. Army adopted the shorter 10-inch M1 bayonet in 1943, large numbers of existing M1905 bayonets were returned for modification. The blades were shortened by approximately six inches and reground to the new standard.

The blade retains its characteristic long central fuller extending nearly to the reground point, one of the easiest ways to distinguish a shortened M1905 from a newly manufactured M1 bayonet. The blade shows scattered scratches, areas of minor staining, and sharpening or polishing along the cutting edge. The converted point remains well formed. The steel guard and pommel exhibit an aged gray-brown patina with scattered oxidation and wear, while the original black ribbed composition grips remain securely fitted and show only expected handling marks.

The bayonet is accompanied by an olive-drab M7-pattern scabbard with steel throat and M1910-style wire belt hook. The throat bears the U.S. Ordnance shell-and-flame insignia over U.S., while the body displays the molded Vp / 7 marking associated with Victory Plastics, the scabbard-manufacturing subsidiary of Beckwith Manufacturing Company. Victory Plastics produced the resin-impregnated scabbard bodies used with U.S. bayonets, and the "Vp" marking identifies its manufacture. The scabbard retains a substantial amount of its olive-drab finish with scratches, edge wear, and areas of surface loss.

This is a particularly appealing WWII bayonet with considerably more history than a standard newly manufactured M1. The combination of the 1942 Utica Cutlery production markings, identifiable PAL-MOD wartime conversion, long M1905-style fuller, and U.S. M7 scabbard makes this an excellent representative example of the massive American equipment-modification program undertaken during WWII.

Measurements:
Blade 9 ⅞”
Full Length of Bayonet 14 ½”
Full Length 15 ¾”

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-u-s-wwii-1942-utica-cutlery-m1905e1-bayonet-converted-to-m1-configuration-by-pal-with-m7-scabbard
