One-of-a-Kind. This is an outstanding U.S. M-43 Jacket liner which was worn by a Captain in the 101st Airborne Division. The Captain opted to use the jacket liner as outerwear, despite it being meant to be worn under another garment. The liner has a great period-stitched 101st Airborne Division patch & rocker, and embroidered Captain’s bars stitched to each shoulder. This very uniform jacket appears in the wonderful book Heroes in our Midst, Volume 3, by John Angolia, on page 117. Heroes Volume 3 covers all airborne-related uniforms (132 pages), airborne commands and specific insignia of airborne and related uniforms (243 pages with many hundreds of full color patches and variations), and an addendum with a detailed jump helmet and netting section. 1640 photos,(most in color), 472 pgs.

The jacket liner retains its tag reading:

36R
JACKET, FIELD, PILE, O.D.
Wear Jacket, Field, M-1943 or Parka Field,
Cotton, O.D. or Parka Over White over this
Jacket.
Always separate from other garments for
Drying.
This item not intended to be worn as outer
Garment except when under shelter.

This denotes a size of 36R. The liner has a six loop button front closure, with all buttons and loops retained. The liner has good service wear to the interior with armpit reinforcements. The knit cuffs are still well-retained and are certainly original, as is the knit collar.

The 101st Airborne Patch appears to be a Type 1, and has great period stitching.
