This is a very nice example of a Model 1917 C.T. Bolo knife, manufactured by American Cutlery Company of Chicago, Illinois. This model was a moderate simplification of the earlier 1910 Bolo made by Springfield Armory. The main difference is the lack of the catch mechanism on the scabbard and grip. It was manufactured by contractors such as Plumb and American Cutlery Co. of Chicago. The blade ricasso on this example is clearly marked:

A.C.CO.
CHICAGO
1918

The reverse is marked:

U.S. MOD
1917
C.T.

Blade and ricasso retain nearly all of their lovely blackened color with signs of the usual storage wear. This example shows no signs of any real use. The main edge of many 1917s, such as this one, is mostly ground from the factory from one side, while the other side was left flat. The edge on the tips and near the ricasso are ground from both sides.

The grip is in great condition, with all of the original "ribbed texture, and a nice color. There is no cracking or issues to speak of.

The scabbard is an example we have only had a few times before. The scabbard is an all steel example with leather belt hanger with the standard wire hanger for the pistol belt. The scabbard is marked as being made by Landers, Frary & Clark and is dated 1918.

The scabbard is in very good condition, with no real issues with the steel or leather portions aside from the expected wear from 100 years of age, and a bit of paint wear. Really a great example of one of these scabbards.

Overall in very good lightly used condition, and a great chance to add to any military knife collection.
