Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. This is an incredibly scarce grenade fielded by the United States during World War I, the Thermite Hand Grenade Mark I. This grenade was modeled off the French made Grenade á Main Incendiare mle. 1916. The US forces used these in WW1, however they were supplied by the French and were given the US designation of Mk 1 Thermite. Its main use was to destroy enemy guns or for use on their own to prevent capture. Like all deactivated ordnance, this grenade is Not Available for Export.
The grenade measures 5¼” long including the tube, while the body alone is 3¾”, with a 2” base diameter. There are six holes perforated in the top of the grenade with old paint chipping off. The fuze tube is brass and does not remove from the grenade. The original pull ring is intact, but it is barely inserted into the tube, and we couldn’t get it to push any further in.
This is an extremely scarce example, ready for further research and display. It’s the first one we’ve ever offered, and could very well be the last.
