This is a very nice example of one of the small revolvers made by Whitneyville Armory, located in Whitneyville Connecticut. This area, today near Hamden Connecticut, was so named due to its association with the famous Eli Whitney, the inventor of the Cotton Gin. Whitney also manufactured firearms, such as Springfield Muskets, and his son, also named Eli Whitney, followed in his footsteps. The factory was expanded, and the area became known as \"Whitneyville\", making firearms throughout the 19th century. Eventually, after several consolidations, the factory became \"Whitneyville Armory.\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a lovely 5 shot .32cal rimfire pistol, made for self protection, and would easily fit in a coat pocket. Whitneyville Armory termed this their No. 1-1\/2 model, and with a brass frame and blued steel, it is quite lovely. The revolver is marked with serial number \u003cstrong\u003e1588\u003c\/strong\u003e on the bottom of the grip, the cylinder arbor pin\/ejector, on the bottom of the barrel, and on the rear of the cylinder. The inside of both grip scales is marked with shortened number \u003cstrong\u003e588\u003c\/strong\u003e. This makes this a very nice \"All Matching\" example, with no parts swapped out!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt also is marked on the top barrel flat with the early single line address marking:\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ccenter\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWHITNEYVILLE ARMORY CT. U.S.A.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/center\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLater produced examples would have the patent information listed, however when this revolver was made the patent had only been applied for, not approved, which means it was made 1871-1872.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is one of many revolvers made in the late 19th Century patterned after Smith \u0026amp; Wesson Revolvers, firing rimfire cartridges and having spur triggers. These were so prolific that the major makers such as Smith \u0026amp; Wesson, Colt, and Remington virtually abandoned the small pistol market.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe revolver has lovely wooden grips, which look to possibly be Walnut, with the remains of the original varnished finish present. The revolver cycles, but does not index well, as the cylinder lock is worn and will not properly engage the cylinder. We checked the bore, and it has clear lands and grooves, with a partly bright finish.
