These rims had non-magnetic qualities that reduced the chance of error readings when placed around certain sensitive equipment (such as a compass). In WWII the shells had Stainless Steel rims, however these would easily lose paint, and the shine produced without paint was a liability.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis helmet is a fair Vietnam War era example with many replaced parts. It is equipped with a standard Reversible Camouflage cover, which is marked on the other side but not dated. It is held in place by a reproduction (not period original) elastic band that retains the cover.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe helmet comes complete with a 1980s period M1 helmet liner that is not correct for the period.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe included reversible camouflage cover is in very good service worn condition, complete with the reproduction elastic securing band.
