While possibly intended for a musket or other small arms, this size would often be used for cannon priming. The end of the horn is fluted in a pattern that matches the corresponding plug, and the plug is still attached to the original suspension. These are extremely difficult to find in this configuration.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis example has a large and deep inscription depicting a Heart with the initials \u003cstrong\u003eW.A.\u003c\/strong\u003e and the year \u003cstrong\u003e1776\u003c\/strong\u003e, next to a larger inscription of \u003cstrong\u003eLIBERTY\u003c\/strong\u003e. \u003cstrong\u003eHowever, due to the aging of the inscription, we believe the inscription was professionally added much later than 1776, and was added to give the horn a great look\u003c\/strong\u003e. It certainly does give it a great look, but we are certain the inscription was not added during the original period.
