On March 1st, 1867, Nebraska was officially recognized as the 37th State of the United States of America. That year, on July 4th, the 37 Star Flag was officially adopted as the national flag of the US. This flag remained in use for a period of 10 years until between July 4th 1867 and July 4th 1877, when Colorado joined the union, leading to the introduction of the 38 Star Flag.

The 37-star flags are a rare and desirable flag due to their limited production time and age. This particular United States National Flag is a gorgeous silk example, which makes it extremely fragile. It is housed in a 21¼ x 29¼” frame. The flag itself measures roughly 16 x 23½”.

The flag has very heavy fraying across due to its fragile silk construction, with heavy ripping across. There is a lot of material which has become a mess in the bottom right corner. Thankfully, it is framed and should keep its shape well, but it could possibly be reframed by a professional if desired.

This is one of the most interesting early flags we have offered, and only the third 37-star example we’ve had.

A heavily frayed example, but original, and ready to display in your collection.

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-u-s-reconstruction-era-framed-37-star-1867-1877-silk-united-states-national-flag-21-x-29
