Original Item: Only One Available. These are something that we have only ever had very few of. It is a very good condition U.S. M1892 bayonet dated 1897, made for the Springfield Model 1892–99 Krag-Jørgensen rifles, some of which were still in use during WWI. It is fitted with its original all steel scabbard with a swivel belt loop on the back. These are very rarely seen on today's market, especially with the scabbard included and fully intact.
The "Krag" was the U.S. Army's first repeating rifle, and the M1892 bayonet was based on the Swiss M1889 bayonet, made for use on the 7.5 mm. M1889 Schmidt-Rubin straight-pull bolt-action rifle.
This example is in very good condition, with the original bright finish and a great blade with just a few spots of staining. It has been sharpened, and also was definitely sent back to arsenal once, as it has been refit with 1899 pattern "Ribbed" grip plates, which still have the texture easily visible. It also has "Domed" rivets, which have not been ground smooth like they were before 1899. The wood is in great shape, with only a bit of wear. The blade is dated 1894 on one side, and US on the other, and has a fully functional bayonet catch.
The scabbard is in excellent condition, with a blued finish with very little wear, and a fully functional swivel. The scabbard body is straight and dent free. It has the early type "hook" attachment, correct for an 1894 dated bayonet.
Straight out of an old collection, ready to display or add to your Springfield Krag rifle!
