One-of-a-Kind. CCC Camp Clam Lake (Camp F-15) Company 653, was just outside the town of Clam Lake in Ashland County, Wisconsin in the Chequamegon National Forest. It was one of the first camps to be opened in 1933. Among the work done there were reforestation projects.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a great M1910 Canteen used and engraved by a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. The front is engraved \u003cstrong\u003eBOINSKI \u003c\/strong\u003ewith an engraving of the man’s sweetheart, Lill. The back is engraved \u003cstrong\u003eGENE BOYER\u003c\/strong\u003e with an axe and American Flag over \u003cstrong\u003eC.C.C. CO. 653 CLAM LAKE, WIS\u003c\/strong\u003e. This company was formed and trained at Fort Sheradin, Illinois in May 1933. Two hundred and six lads between 18 and 25 were shipped here in June to carve this camp from woods overlooking the Torch River. Squads has to dig out stumps and bury rocks to pitch their tents. Camp 653 was abandoned in 1941. In 1942 the CCC program ended as the nation’s young men headed off to war.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe canteen is in rough condition overall with very heavy denting. There is no date as many of these early canteens were unmarked. The cap and chain are still retained, however. CCC items are extremely sought after, making this a scarce example!
