Only One Available. This is a lovely nice early U.S. flintlock pistol, made during the late 18th century by Isaac Haines of what today is Lampeter Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This area was a hotbed of early American gunsmithing in the Susquehanna River valley, before it moved farther west into Pennsylvania and down the Ohio River valley. Haines is recorded as working 1772 until 1792, so this is definitely a Revolutionary era pistol, and it really looks fantastic.

The pistol has a heavy octagonal barrel measuring 5 1/2 inches in length, with a bore of about .31", and the pistol has an overall length of just under 10 inches. There are no markings on the barrel, however the lock plate has a hand engraved banner reading HAINES, along with some simple engraving. We tested the lock action, and it works correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full, though sometimes it can be hard to get it to reach full cock.

The flame maple stock is just lovely, with a great varnished finish, and is decorated with silver "arrow" inlays, 3 on each side. The trigger guard and nose cap are of brass, and under the barrel is a lovely cleaning rod, which has a brass fitting which unscrews to show a clearing worm. The wood portion of the rod does look to possibly have been replaced at some point.

A lovely early American flintlock pistol with a beautiful flame maple stock.
