This is a lovely example of a New England Pre-Revolutionary War Fowling piece. Most likely assembled using a British \"Trade\" Lock, this hunting gun also has a British barrel, bearing proofs from the Gun making city of Birmingham. It also is marked \u003cstrong\u003eWS \/ \u0026amp; Co.\u003c\/strong\u003e between the proof marks, which we have not been able to identify. Probably one of the multitude of gunsmiths in the Birmingham area.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe musket is all brass mounted, with a full length stock and ramrod. The lock side plate is quite elegantly designed. It is possible that this was eventually pressed into service as a \"militia\" musket, but the thin barrel walls suggest that it was really intended as a shotgun for bird hunting.
