The pistol measures 14\" overall, with a smooth bore barrel of 8 1\/2\", and was converted to percussion, after which it saw additional use, most likely in the Civil War. Unlike most we see, this had a new breech with a cap bolster grafted on, instead of just having a cap nipple drilled into the barrel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe pistol is all steel mounted, the only brass component being the brass fore sight. In very good condition overall, this pistol looks to have been kept in good polish for years, and possibly had the stock refinished, which has made the cartouches somewhat faint. The lock functions correctly, holding half-cock and dry firing at full.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe stock is in very good condition, with a lovely walnut color. It is marked very faintly at the rear of the flat portion of the stock with a stylized \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eM.P.L.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, for inspector Major M.P. Lomax, U.S. Army, who inspected Waters and H. Johnson Pistols from 1837-1843. There is a faded cartouche close to the lower lock screw, however it is not completely legible.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA beautiful example of an early U.S. Martial pistol, converted to percussion for further service.
