This is a totally correct lightly patinated U.S. M-1819 Flintlock pistol made by Simeon North in Middletown, Connecticut, still in the original flintlock configuration. North had a 53 year relationship with the U.S. War Department, and the contract for the Model 1819 pistols was one of the last contracts North had for martial pistols from the U.S. Government. The model 1819 has a longer barrel than the previous model 1816, and features a "captured" ramrod which cannot be easily lost, as well as a half-cock safety on the lock. Many of these pistols were converted to percussion later in the 19th century, but this one escaped such treatment.

The model measures 15 1/2" overall with a .54 Caliber 10" barrel. It has all iron mounts including a large skull crusher butt cap, iron trigger guard, side plate and large barrel band. The breech of the barrel is proof marked JDJ / P / U.S., which records indicate is "J.D. Johwson", who inspected "M1819 North Pistol Barrels 1819-1822". It is possible however that the last name was misspelled in records, as "Johnson" makes much more sense for a surname. These marks also were struck through for some reason.

This Lock marking is fully legible, with the Federal Eagle completely retained, definitely a rarity:-

S. The steel and iron surfaces shows scattered staining from past peppering ang light pitting, but the pistol is still in tight working condition, with the lock holding properly at half cock, and firing at full. The safety is also fully functional. It looks like it saw a good amount of service, but was relatively well cared for.

The stock is in good shape, showing a lovely dark color, and shows the expected wear from use. There is some missing wood around the bottom of the lock plate, which is relatively common. There also is a repaired crack on the left side running from the barrel wood line to the side plate, and possibly underneath.

A very nice example of an Early U.S. military pistol with a great lightly used look, ready to display!

Specifications:

Year of Manufacture: 1822
Caliber: .54 inches
Ammunition Type: Lead Ball & Powder
Barrel Length: 10 inches
Overall Length: 16 inches
Action: Side Action Flintlock
Feed System: Muzzle-Loaded

NOTE: International orders of antique firearms MUST be shipped using UPS WW Services (courier).
