Original U.S. Model 1816 Flintlock Pistol by Simeon North of Middletown Connecticut

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. In 1816 the Federal Government ordered 20,000 Flintlock Pistols designated the Model of 1816 from SIMEON NORTH,
a Gun Manufacturer in Middletown, Connecticut. Between 1817 and 1820, 19,374 pistols had been delivered to Government Arsenals.

The model measures 15 1/2" overall with a .54 Caliber 9 1/16" barrel. It has all iron mounts including a large skull crusher butt cap, iron trigger guard, side plate and large barrel band which supports a brass fore sight. The breech of the barrel is proof marked P / U.S.

This Lock marking is worn half away on the right side: the eagle is no longer apparent and only S. NOR / U. / MIDLN can still be read. The wood butt stock bears the ghost of it's Government inspector's Cartouche in an oval just behind the side plate. The pistol retains its wooden ramrod which retains its steel bottom mount. There is a small chunk of wood missing directly behind the hammer, directly behind the barrel.

The pistol is however in really nice condition. The lock holds half-cock, and dry fires correctly. Fully cleaned and ready to display.
