They did not make arms, but accouterments. Beyond this they specialized in gun powder flasks and silver flasks. This example retains its original rope carrying strap.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe flask is marked on the cap \u003cstrong\u003eG. \u0026amp; J.W. HAWKSLEY SHEFFIELD\u003c\/strong\u003e. The cap screws on and off perfectly with no issue. The spring on the spout appears to have a period repair, and still works. The measuring spout however looks to be missing a piece. This example dates to the Mexican-American War period, but was likely meant as a hunting flask given the depiction. This is a very unique design with a stag’s head on each side with oak leaves and acorns below them. A very beautiful flask that will fit well into any Mexican-American War, Civil War, or 19th Century firearm collection!
