This is a totally correct U.S. M-1826 Flintlock Navy pistol made by Simeon North in Middletown, Connecticut that has been converted to the percussion ignition system. North had a 53 year relationship with the U.S. War Department, and the contract for the Model 1826 pistols was the last contract North had for martial pistols from the U.S. Government. The North Model 1826 Navy Pistol is virtually a smaller version of the Model 1819 with a few slight alterations. It is most readily identifiable from the sharp angle of the grip that is not seen on Model 1819 pistols. Most of these pistols were converted to percussion later in the 19th century, such as this one has been.

The pistol is correctly marked on the lock plate with U.S. over S. NORTH and dated 1828 on the lock plate tail. This pistol has a brass blade front sight and an oval sight near the tang, though after conversion the sights are not easily usable. Powder burn and cleaning have removed just about all traces of proof marks on the barrel breech.

The pistol still retains its swivel "captured" ramrod, this pistol has all steel mounts and also its original iron belt hook. Steel and iron surfaces shows old staining from rust and pitting, as expected from Naval service. The wood stock shows wear and damage commensurate with age and long service, and there is some cracking around the muzzle. The lock is functional, holding at half cock and firing at full, though to fire at full cock the trigger must be pulled back firmly and quickly, or it can hang up at half cock.

A very nice patinated example of a hard to find naval pistol, ready to display.

Specifications:

Year of Manufacture: 1828
Caliber: .54 inches
Ammunition Type: Lead Ball & Powder with Percussion Cap
Barrel Length: 8.5 inches
Overall Length: 13.25 inches
Action: Percussion Lock
Feed System: Muzzle-Loaded

NOTE: International orders of antique firearms MUST be shipped using UPS WW Services (courier).
