Only One Available. This is an excellent original U.S. M38A2 100LB Practice Bomb dated September 1952, retaining its original blue training paint and much of its white stenciled identification. Measuring about 48 inches long and just over 8 inches wide, it is an imposing example of the full size practice ordnance used to train American aircrews during the Korean War era.

This bomb is totally inert and deactivated following guidelines provided by the ATF. It cannot be converted to an explosive device and is not available for export.

The M38A2 was designed to reproduce the external size and handling characteristics of a 100 lb. general purpose aerial bomb without requiring the use of a live high explosive bomb during routine training. Its body was constructed from relatively light sheet metal and could be loaded with sand to bring the complete practice bomb to approximately 100 lbs. When empty, the body weighed approximately 14 lbs., making it considerably easier and safer to handle when not prepared for a training drop.

The bomb retains its original blue paint, the standard identifying color used on U.S. practice and inert ordnance during the WWII period and afterward. Surviving original paint is especially important on an example of this size, as many practice bombs were subjected to repeated handling, outdoor exposure, repainting, or later decorative alteration.

The bomb still has the original blue paint job, the standard color for U.S. inert ordnance during the WWII Period and later. It also still has the original stenciled markings mostly visible:

PRACTICE

BOMB

100 LB. Overall it measures about 48 inches long and just over 8 inches wide. Condition is very good, with just a bit of wear, and some light oxidation in places where the paint has worn through. There is minimal denting or deformation.

The original blue finish, largely legible stencil, September 1952 date, and limited deformation distinguish this example from the many surviving practice bombs that have been heavily corroded, repainted, or substantially damaged. It will be a great addition to any collection of U.S. military aviation, aerial ordnance, Air Force training equipment, or Korean War material.

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-u-s-korean-war-era-100lb-practice-bomb-m38a2-with-original-blue-training-paint-dated-1952
