Original U.S. Korean War Air Force Type P1A Flying Helmet with MS-22001 Oxygen Mask and Earphones

This helmet was officially designated; Helmet, Flying, Protective, Type P-1A, United States Air Force. The oxygen mask MS22001 can also be seen in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum which can be found at this link.

This was the first type of hard helmet mass produced for standard issue to the United States Air Force jet crewmen to provide buffeting and crash protection. The original P-1 was introduced in March 1948. The P-1A, was identical except for a neck strap which was added to prevent the helmet from tilting up during maneuvers.

This example shell is a cherry red with painted white lightning bolts. The interior has a U.S. AIR FORCE marked liner. This set also has the oxygen mask MS22001 and internal earphones. The helmet is approximately a size US 7 (56cm) and is offered in very good to excellent condition.
